HELLEBORE PLANT LIST
X HYBRIDUS (ORIENTALIS) ‘The Lenten Rose’
ALL PLANTS £5 EACH, UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED
BLACK SHADES
We have some fine blacks, mainly from our Eric Smith strain.
PURPLE SHADES
Eric Smith strain. Good vigorous deep purples.
BLUE SHADES
Hamburg Grape. Attractive grape blue flowers £6.50
Tommy. There may be a few divisions of this Helen Ballard hybrid. Low growing, slate blue flowers like an exceptional H. torquatus. £8.50
Mixed Blue shades. Various slate and purple/blue shades
RED/PLUM SHADES
Andersons Reds. From original E B Anderson strain
Plum Draco. Good plum red flowers unusually lighter on the outside of the petals. Divisions or flowering plants. From Eric Smith’s Draco Strain.
Plum Red We have some fine plants bred from a Will McLewin strain of plum reds.
PINK SHADES
Unspotted Pink. From our best clear pinks, mainly Eric Smith Pink Strain and some very nice rosy pinks from Will McLewin strains. (May have very faint spotting some years) Pinks particularly can vary considerably in the amount of speckling from year to year.
Speckled Draco Varying degrees of prominent speckling , often so heavy as to make a central deep pink ring.
Aquarius. Bred from the famous Eric Smith plant. Pale pink with delicate speckling. Divisions.
Cosmos Another well known Eric Smith hybrid. Medium pink with all over light speckling.
WHITE SHADES
Clear White Divisions and flowered plants
Guttatus. White with varying quantities of deep red speckling. One of our most popular hellebores.
YELLOW SHADES
Blowsy. Bred from Helen Ballard’s fine reliable yellow. Flattish flowers of creamy yellow with lightly puckered petals.
Blowsy hybids. Blowsy crosses with odorus and cyclophyllus. Excellent and vigorous plants.
Baby Blowsy. Selection from one of our Blowsy x odorus hybrids. Low growing, with an abundance of smaller ‘Blowsy’ type flowers .
Sirius hybrids. Sirius was bred in the 1970’s by Eric Smith and is still one of the best yellows today. A tall grower with large primrose yellow flowers surrounded by a ruff of pale green bracts. The progeny are however somewhat variable. We have crossed it with our best yellows and creams and are offering the better forms including some self pollinated.
Mixed hybrids. Various yellows including forms from Sunny and some bred from excellent Elizabeth Strangman and Will McLewin plants.
GREEN SHADES These look surprisingly attractive and are always popular.

HELLEBORUS SPECIES
Argutifolius (Corsicus). We have some nice young plants of this popular tall growing species with apple green flowers. £3.50
Foetidus Wester Flisk. Metallic bluish leaves and red stems. Does not seed about so much as the common variety. Young Plants. £2
x sternii. Naturally occurring hybrid between lividus and a. corsicus. £3.50.
Orientalis. Wild forms from seed collections in the Caucasus, thanks to the efforts of Will McLewin in obtaining seed from this difficult area. Generally somewhat smaller than the hybrids but very free flowering. Mostly white or creamy yellow flowers. £4
